About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Fifty years ago this Sunday (February 9, 2014), four mop-topped lads from Liverpool took to a television stage and changed the world. The Beatles made their stateside debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in three consecutive headlining performances to great anticipation and fanfare, drawing over 73 million viewers and launching the 'British Invasion.' Commentator and Murray State history professor Dr. Brian Clardy reflects on their first performance and its cultural impact over 50 years.

Empty Bowls Event to Feed Paducah's Hungry, February 15

The Empty Bowls Project returns to Paducah at the Julian M. Carroll Convention Center February 15. The evening is a fundraiser for The Community Kitchen of Paducah, and gathers over 1,400 hand-made ceramic bowls and over a dozen different restaurants for an opportunity to feed the most fragile members of our community. Kate Lochte speaks with Michael Terra of Terra Cottage Ceramics about the event.

152 Years Later: Fort Henry's Construction, Battle and Legacy

The Battle of Fort Henry was fought on February 6, 1862, in western Tennessee and was the first important victory for the Union led by Ulysses S. Grant, in the Western Theater during the Civil War. Dover historian Susan "Ski" Witzofsky previews her February 8th program for the 152nd Anniversary of Fort Henry's construction, battle and legacy.

Jesse Stuart Papers Return to Murray State Archives

Murray State's Jesse Stuart Collection contains the published works of southern Appalachia novelist and author Jesse Hilton Stuart. The collection includes numerous first editions, journals, foreign language editions, paperbacks, and signed copies. Stuart donated the collection to the university in 1961. MSU's Dean of Libraries Dr. Adam Murray joined Kate in the studio to talk about the papers' return from Morehead State University.

UIU Link Connects Students to Web Courses Across Universities

UIU Link is a new brokerage for online accredited higher education courses. The system allows universities and their faculty the ability to seek additional revenue sources and enrollment enrichment by sharing their course seat availability to prospective students from other colleges. Former Murray Town and Gown's Kim Griffo has instituted the new business based at Virginia Tech with an office in Paducah.
