About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Maestro Ponti Previews Paducah Symphony's Rachmaninoff Concert

Paducah Symphony Orchestra Maestro Raffaele Ponti conducts "Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony" at the Carson Center, February 1.

The performance features Paul Creston's "Dance Overture op.62, Robert Smith's Rites of Tamburo in a side-by-side performance with the youth orchestra and Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphony No.2. Kate speaks with Ponti about the selection and other activities happening through PSO.

Nashville Actor 'Finds' Nat King Cole in Hopkinsville

The famous Route 66 makes a path through Hopkinsville on February 8. Nashville-based actor Jeff Obafemi Carr brings his one-man performance Route 66: Finding Nat King Cole to the Alhambra Theatre for an evening of stories and tapestry of tribute to the late jazz musician. He previews the upcoming performance with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good.

Jesse Stuart Papers Return to Murray State Archives

MSU Deans of Libraries Dr. Adam Murray

Murray State's Jesse Stuart Collection contains the published works of southern Appalachia novelist and author Jesse Hilton Stuart. The collection includes numerous first editions, journals, foreign language editions, paperbacks, and signed copies. Stuart donated the collection to the university in 1961. MSU's Dean of Libraries Dr. Adam Murray joined Kate in the studio to talk about the papers' return from Morehead State University.

UIU Link Connects Students to Web Courses Across Universities

UIU Link is a new brokerage for online accredited higher education courses. The system allows universities and their faculty the ability to seek additional revenue sources and enrollment enrichment by sharing their course seat availability to prospective students from other colleges. Former Murray Town and Gown's Kim Griffo has instituted the new business based at Virginia Tech with an office in Paducah. She joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to talk about this new opportunity in the region.

Western Kentuckians Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

Brrr! Perhaps the chilliest fundraising event of the year, the Western Kentucky Plunge Polar Plunging pits brave Kentuckians against the icy waters of Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park to raise funds for the Special Olympics. The event, held this year on February 15, has grown to more than 500 participants and raising more than $100,000 each year. Kate Lochte speaks with coach and coordinator Laura Miller of Murray about the event.

Madisonville Community College in Top 150, Competes for $1 Million Prize

Madisonville Community College was recently named one of the nation's top 150 community colleges, which will compete for $1 million dollars in prize funds and the 2015 Aspen Prize. Western Kentucky has two of Kentucky's four colleges on the list. The other in our region is WKCTC in Paducah. Paducah School of Art Hosts Ceramics Invitational, Empty Bowls Project

Paducah School of Art and Design is hosting open studio for ceramicists and friends to make and glaze bowls for this year's Empty Bowls Project.
