The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

New $500k Microloan Program for Small Businesses

A new half-million dollar microloan program is seeking small businesses and entrepreneurs in the region. Marta Elliot, Purchase Area Development District Business Lending Director, and Chris Wooldridge, District Director of Murray State's Small Business Development Center, have partnered to bring awareness of this new loan available from the Small Business Administration and speak about it with Kate on Sounds Good.

Winter Pruning Tips from MSU Horticulturalist

With high temperatures expected to reach the lower to mid 50s this weekend, it might just be warm enough to step outside and give that yard some much needed tender loving care. Pruning during the dormant months is the most common practice, allowing plants ample opportunity to grow in the spring. Murray State Horticulture faculty member Pat Williams addresses pruning in the winter and what to do about ice-damaged trees in a workshop from 1 to 3 Saturday (February 15) afternoon at the Pullen Farm greenhouse at the Murray State Arboretum, on Hickory Drive, off Main Street.

Beshear's Tax Reform Proposal in House Budget Committee Today, A Behind-The-Scenes Look

Lt. Gov Jerry Abramson presented a draft of Governor Steve Beshear's proposed tax code changes to the House budget committee today, which was first announced by Beshear last week. The changes, if fully implemented, could raise an estimated $210 million annually by expanding the 6% sales tax to select services, an increased tax on cigarettes from 60 cents to $1 dollar per pack, and reducing tax breaks on pensions for people earning more than $80,000. On Sounds Good, Kate speaks with policy analyst and member of the Governor's Blue Ribbon Committee on tax reform, Jason Bailey about the events of the day.

WKCTC Among Top Community Colleges for 3rd Consecutive Year

Once again, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program has placed Paducah's West Kentucky Community and Technical College among the nation's best community colleges. The top 150 will compete for a $1 million grand prize awarded in early 2015. Kate speaks with Dr. Renae Akin, WKCTC Interim Vice President of Enrollment Management and Associate VP of Learning Initiatives about the honor.

National Weather Service: Snow Likely Tonight

The National Weather Service says a disturbance in the upper levels of the atmosphere will move across the Mississippi Valley tonight, bringing a spread of snow across the Ohio River Valley. We will likely receive roughly 1 to 2 inches of snow this evening, which may make roads hazardous. Rick Shanklin of NWS in Paducah gives us an outlook on weekend weather.

"Putt" Children First Fundraiser for Youth Mentors, Feb. 15

West Kentucky Mentoring provides one-to-one site-based mentoring services to youth between the ages of 5 to 18. They match caring adults with youth in various sites like schools libraries and homes; spending time helping with homework, sports and talking about life. Director Suzy Crook joins Kate on Sounds Good to talk about the first annual "Putt" Children First Fundraiser, February 15 at Treasure  Golf in Murray.

Murray Attorney Pens True Tale of Murder and Redemption

In 1922, the Graves County Sheriff was murdered in the courthouse in front of several witnesses. A few days later, his wife is appointed sheriff and begins her quest for redemption. Murray attorney Sid Easley tells this true tale in his book, A Courthouse Tragedy. Easley joins Kate Lochte in the studio during Sounds Good to describe the fateful events and reads from his book.
