About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Daughter of Gov. Breathitt Joins 50th Anniversary March on Frankfort

"Ned" Breathitt, was newly in office for the 1964 March on Frankfort that was celebrated in a 50th Anniversary March today (March 5). Hopkinsville International Festival Celebrates Global Heritage This Weekend

The Hopkinsville International Festival will be held March 7 from 4-8PM and March 8 from 10AM to 6PM at the James E. Bruce Convention Center. Parks and Recreation will host a "Creation Station" where participants can design their own kites. Other festival activities include a virtual Tour de France, multilingual stories, an international pageant, international food vendors, a photo booth, door prizes, and more. Christian County Chamber's Yasamin Ausenbaugh visits with Kate Lochte  on Sounds Good for a preview.

Understanding Bitcoin's Rise and Fall... and Rise?

The virtual currency Bitcoin has been on a media rollercoaster since its introduction in 2009. Recently, the world's largest Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox filed for bankruptcy, leaving half a billion dollars potentially gone. This news comes on the heels of the Chinese government announcing that exchanges were banned from using the Yuan. Nevertheless, Bitcoin may still be the currency of the future. Murray State's Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business faculty member Sunayan Acharya joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to explain the headlines and what the future may have in store for the digital currency.

50 Years Later: The Civil Rights March on Frankfort

This week marks the 50th anniversary of a Kentucky event of importance not only for the state, but also for the nation. On March 5, 1964, over 10,000 people marched to Frankfort, Kentucky, led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Jackie Robinson, demanding a law to end segregation in the Commonwealth. We hear the story with Kate Lochte, through the voices of a state employee of that time and an organizer of the event - who is still working for human rights.

Music@MAC Presents Italian Electronic Group JoyCut

"Mesmerizing and conceptual sound based on dilated and biting electro sound." That's how Maiden Alley describes the Italian group JoyCut, playing live at Music@MAC on Wednesday, March 5. SXSW highlights, JoyCut have recently opened and toured with The Editors, Modest Mouse and Arcade Fire. Their United States tour promotes their third album. They come to Paducah as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, facilitating international creative partnerships. Kate Lochte speaks with Landee Bryant-Greene of Maiden Alley about the performance and others in the Music@MAC series.

Murray State Concert Choir Features Works of E.E. Cummings Sunday

Dr. Amy Aucoin directs the Concert Choir of Murray State which is giving a concert Sunday, March 2 at 3:30 PM in Lovett Auditorium featuring the works of poet E.E. Cummings. Dr. Aucoin is also calling for singers for the spring semester of Community Chorus. "How I Became A Pirate" Opens at Market House Theatre

Ahoy Mateys! A new musical adventure docks in Paducah tonight (February 27) through March 9. "How I Became A Pirate" tells the story of a young boy who gets recruited by a friendly pirate captain and his whacky mates to help in the search for buried treasure. Along the way, they learn that real treasure can't be found on a map. April Cochran, Education Director for Paducah's Market House Theatre directs the production, and gives a preview on Sounds Good.

Kentucky Reshapes Services for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Legislation passed last Friday in the Kentucky House of Representatives codifies a new Advisory Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders. We learn more about this Council and how it reshapes services to ASD individuals with the Medical Director of the Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities, Dr. Allen Brenzel, a Lexington Pediatrician and Child Psychiatrist. Kate Lochte opens the discussion by asking how this council differs from its predecessor, created during the administration of Governor Ernie Fletcher in 2005.
