About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Organizers Unpacking for Paducah Quilt Week

More than 10,000 quilts have been displayed in Paducah and more than $2.5 million in cash prizes have been awarded during the American Quilter's Society's shows that are in their third decade in 2014. The Paducah McCracken County Convention and Expo Center is the epicenter of the AQS Quilt Week activities that start with an awards preview next Tuesday (April 22) then show opening Wednesday, continuing through Saturday. American Quilter's Society co-founder Meredith Schroeder is at the Expo Center helping to unpack quilts for judging over the weekend and Kate Lochte speaks with her on Sounds Good.

Outdoorsman, author, Murray native and Maryville College professor, Kim Trevathan speaks at Murray State University tonight (April 17) at 6:30 about his journeys on America's waterways. He visits Sounds Good for a preview of his talk, titled "Transformative Places" and addresses the questions of how we determine what constitutes beauty in a landscape and how we make decisions regarding preservation and development.

IFHF Reaches Milestone for Ft. Campbell Traumatic Brain Injury Center

Ft. Campbell Kentucky's Center to Diagnose and Treat Traumatic Brain Injury has hit a construction milestone. Kate Lochte speaks with Arnold Fisher, a family representative of the national fundraising effort, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The center will provide diagnosis and treatment for wounded, injured and ill military heroes while creating programs for rehabilitation and recovery.

The Madisonville Miners Play 2014 Ohio Valley League

The Madisonville Miners is a summer collegiate baseball team that plays at Elmer Kelley Stadium. Madisonville has a long history in baseball, joining the KITTY League in 1916 for one season and resurfacing in 1922 for another season. The Miners returned from 1946-1955 with ties to the Chicago White Sox. They won the KITTY League Championship in 1949 and 1952. This year, the Miners make their return playing in the Ohio Valley League. Kate speaks with Chris Luttrell of the Miners about the team and the games this summer, on Sounds Good.

Meet Paducah Sun's New Executive Director

Today on Sounds Good we welcome the new executive editor of the Paducah Sun, Steve Wilson. In the mid-eighties, when he was with the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Wilson edited and directed a year-long project "Life on the Land: An American Farm Family" which won that newspaper's Pulitzer Prize.

Members of Paducah's Jaeger family have created an online literary magazine "for the imaginative young adult reader, inspired young adult writer and adventurous artist," titled Stone Crowns. Kate Lochte speaks with Matt Jaeger on Sounds Good. The Stone Crowns philosophy is to facilitate realistic and/or fantastic worlds exciting and worth exploring.

West Kentucky Mentoring Launches 'Buddy Campaign'

West Kentucky Mentoring or WKM has launched its annual Buddy Campaign. Today on Sounds Good, we welcome back Executive Director Suzy Crook to learn more about it. West Kentucky Mentoring serves youth ages 5 to 18 by partnering caring adult mentors with kids in various sites such as schools, libraries and homes to provide at least one hour per week of personal time spent helping with homework, sports, talking about life, etc.
