The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

West Kentucky Mentoring Launches 'Buddy Campaign'

West Kentucky Mentoring or WKM has launched its annual Buddy Campaign. Today on Sounds Good, we welcome back Executive Director Suzy Crook to learn more about it. West Kentucky Mentoring serves youth ages 5 to 18 by partnering caring adult mentors with kids in various sites such as schools, libraries and homes to provide at least one hour per week of personal time spent helping with homework, sports, talking about life, etc.

1,000 Kentuckians on Organ Donor Wait List, How You Can Help

April is National Donate Life Month, and nearly one thousand Kentuckians are on the waiting list for donated organs. The easiest way for an individual to help is to join the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry, where one's wishes are documented electronically in a database, and where one person could potentially save 50 lives. Jenny Miller Jones is Director of Education for Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates and joins Tracy Ross on Sounds Good to bring us up to date on the donor registry online.

Acclaimed Poet Alan Shapiro Reads at Murray State

Highly lauded poet, Boston native, UNC-Chapel Hill Professor Alan Shapiro reads from his latest book at Murray State this Thursday (April 3) in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery. Shapiro has won numerous awards for his work including two from the National Arts Foundation. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation. On Sounds Good, Shapiro reads from his work and talks about how he became a poet after his high school basketball career ended.

Jimmy LaSalvia is longtime political activist and strategist, founder of GOProud - a political action group representing gay conservatives, and frequent guest on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News and network TV. He speaks with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good ahead of his presentation "Homocon: A Gay Conservative's View from the Trenches of the Culture Wars," tonight at 7:30 at Murray State University in the Curris Center's Barkley Room. This event is sponsored by LGBT Programming, MSU Alliance, and the President's Commission on Diversity and Inclusion.

Wickliffe Mounds Open for 10th Season as State Historic Site

Native Americans now called Mississippian culture lived at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers around 1100 to 1350 AD. Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site offers a window on this ancient community. Park Manager Carla Hildebrand spoke with Kate Lochte about this season's opening, Tuesday, April 1.

The 22nd Annual Edgar Cayce Hometown Seminar

Hopkinsville native Edgar Cayce became a household name for allegedly possessing strange powers of mental telepathy. His purported psychic abilities to answer questions on health and other personal problems while in a trance garnered him worldwide fame. Museums of Hopkinsville Director Alissa Keller joins Kate on Sounds Good with events Friday through Sunday (March 28-30) remembering Cayce's legacy in the 22nd annual Edgar Cayce Hometown Seminar featuring experts and a hypnotist.

Carmen Lowry on Social Change and Empowerment Initatives

Carmen Lowry's humanitarian work with the International Rescue Committee has recently taken her to Lebanon and Iraqi Kurdistan. Her focus is programming involving social change, empowerment, and addressing gender-based violence. She visits Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to speak about her work.

"You know, I think what really drives me in this work is this notion that we can really make a difference, that we can create a world where people are valued, a world where, in particular, women are valued, where we don't have that level of violence."

Meet Hopkinsville Community College's New President, Dr. Jay Allen

In late 2013, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System announced the appointment of Dr. Jay S. Allen as the next president of Hopkinsville Community College. Dr. Allen comes from his position as Vice President of the Perkinston Campus and George County Center of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College System. He brings over 18 years of experience as a community college administrator. Kate Lochte learns more about Dr. Allen in a conversation on Sounds Good, including some of his plans for the future of HCC.
