The Work Ready Skills Advisory Committee is holding their final round of interviews for schools competing to receive money for career training programs. The 30 schools in the final round include 3 public school districts and one college in western Kentucky.
Over the next two days, the committee holds face-to-face 20-minute interviews with representatives in Frankfort. Paducah Public Schools has requested $9.8 million. Caldwell County Schools requested more than $3.9 million. Webster County Board of Education is seeking more than $1.9 million. While West Kentucky Community and Technical College requested more than $4.6 million.
Funds will go towards programs that will create job growth in five areas:transportation, advanced manufacturing, health science, IT and business, and construction trades. Grants will be awarded from a pool of $65 million. Another $35 million is reserved for a second application cycle in 2017. Officials from Paducah Public Schools and Caldwell County Schools will meet with the committee on December 14 and officials from Webster County Board of Education and West Kentucky Community and Technical College will meet with them on December 15.
