WKMS News has eight finalists for state broadcasting awards. Kentucky Associated Press Broadcasters Association recently announced the finalists for the 2017 professional and college contests.
Local Ohio Valley ReSource reporter Nicole Erwin has four entries in the finals: one OVR piece in best Long Light News Feature: "High Hop(e)s: Craft Brewing Has Farmers Betting on Hops"; and another OVR piece for best Long Public Affairs: "Halting Traffic: Truckers, Survivors, Fighting Human Trafficking"; Erwin is also a finalist for best Use of Sound: "Wickliffe Mounds Sing with Chickasaw Dance Troupe"; and Breaking News along with Station Manger Chad Lampe : “Murray State University Dorm Explosion.”
WKMS Station Manager Chad Lampe is a finalist in Best Short Light News Feature with "The Grand Finale: Murray State Student Gets Special Commencement"; and a finalist for Breaking News with Nicole Erwin: “Murray State University Dorm Explosion.”
In the College contest, student reporter Taylor Inman has two entries in the finals: "Visitors from Afar Descend Upon Kelly 'Green Men' Festival on Eclipse Anniversary" for best Feature Story; and is the only finalist for best Digital Journalist.
Winners will be announced Saturday, April 14 at the Galt House in downtown Louisville.
