WKMS Cookies Sound Good Baking Contest

Murray State’s NPR Station, WKMS, invites cookie bakers to enter its first ever Cookies Sound Good Baking Contest by September 3.  The station is debuting a new program September 4, and the cookie contest winner’s recipe and story will be a feature of this new local music and conversation program Sounds Good with Tracy Ross and Friends.

Elements in Murray is offering nearly $500 in Gift Certificates for the top three winning cooks to choose Kitchen Items from its Chestnut Street location.  Each of five finalists receives a copy of A Summertime Grilling Guide from The Splendid Table, signed by its authors Lynne Rossetto Kasper and Sally Swift, provided by American Public Media.  Kasper hosts The Splendid Table which is heard weekly at 10 a.m. Sundays on WKMS.  The Splendid Table is public radio's culinary, culture, and lifestyle program that celebrates food and its ability to touch the lives and feed the souls of everyone.

Judges will select 5 finalists to engage in a cookie bake-off on Saturday, September 15 in the food preparation laboratories of Murray State’s Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Management Program on Murray State’s campus.   Judges will select first, second and third prizes.  Judges will consider cookies in the following categories:  Prettiest and Tasty, Tastiest with Conventional Ingredients, Tastiest with Unusual Ingredients, Easiest and Tasty, and Healthiest Ingredients and Tasty. Limit one recipe entry per category.

To enter the contest, send WKMS your favorite cookie recipe and a story (250 word min.) about why you treasure the recipe by September 3.  The story might be an anecdote about how your cookie recipe results in cookies that are remarkable for some particular quality or about how your cookies pleased someone, or even how the cookie recipe came to be a favorite.

Enter by e-mail by putting “Cookie Contest” in the subject line and send to msu.wkms@murraystate.edu.  Or mail your recipe and story to Cookie Contest, WKMS, 2018 University Station, Murray, KY, 42071.

No WKMS personnel, professional, intern, or their family members may enter.

WKMS broadcasts to over 20,000 listeners in western Kentucky, southernmost Illinois and northwestern Tennessee.
