West Kentucky Community and Technical College is among the top ten finalists for the 2015 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.
A total of $1 million is awarded to the top 5 schools that display high graduation rates and help prepare students for well-paying jobs.
WKCTC President Dr. Barbara Veazey says her college has cracked the top ten each year since the award’s establishment in 2011.
“Our vision really was to become a preeminent community college and to focus on student success and excellence,” Veazey said.
“Our continuing to evaluate, our continuing desire to improve is what places us in this category.”
Veazey says the award is the preeminent community college recognition in the nation and that WKCTC is honored to be selected for the third consecutive year.
Making it on Aspen’s list of top schools has spurred other colleges to visit WKCTC and learn its practices for student success.
The recognition has also prompted national organizations like the Gates Foundation to partner with WKCTC on special projects.
