Murray, KY – Representative Ed Whitfield and Senator Rand Paul stopped in Murray Wednesday to talk about re-election bids and legislative initiatives to fight government regulations and cut spending.
Murray hosted US Senator Rand Paul and 1st district Congressman Ed Whitfield today in separate events. Whitfield stopped in Murray on a West Kentucky tour announcing his re-election bid. He told constituents about his efforts in Washington to reduce EPA regulations and his bill to allow the re-enrichment of spent uranium stored at Paducah's Gaseous Diffusion Pant. He says the bill would be good for both the federal government and people in the region.
"Number one you're producing more revenue for the federal government," said Whitfield. "You're eliminating that material, you're reducing the cost to the federal government for its maintenance costs, for its cleanup costs, and you're preserving 1,200 jobs." Whitfield continued his tour in Gilbertsville, Paducah, Henderson, and Madisonville.
Senator Paul hosted a town hall event where he took questions and discussed his ideas on balancing the federal budget.
"We can fix the debt," Paul said. He continued, "but we have to reassess and say that not all spending is sacred, not all spending on military is sacred or well spent and not all spending on domestic welfare is. Doesn't mean we can't have a strong national defense, and we should, but we have to reassess all costs and we have to do it in a better way."
