A west Kentucky woman survived an alleged suicide attempt Thursday in Paducah after jumping from the Ledbetter Bridge over the Tennessee River.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said traffic was restricted to one lane when the woman pulled her car into the work area behind the cones. Inspectors said the driver got out of her car, ran over to the bridge railing and jumped into the river.
McCracken County Sheriff’s Department said they were able to get a rescue boat to the woman within minutes of the 911 call. The woman suffered injuries including several fractures and will remain hospitalized for any further help. Investigators believe the incident is a suicide attempt. They have not released her name.
