The Webster County school system is correcting some financial accountability issues brought to light by Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen earlier this summer.
Edelen addressed the issues to a legislative committee yesterday.
Assistant Superintendent Riley Ramsey said the district’s changes included requiring a superintendent to sign off on expense reimbursements and written public evaluations of the district’s superintendent.
“The auditor didn’t find that we were doing anything wrong but they wanted to have us put procedures in place so that nobody could do things wrong,” he said.
Ramsey said the only change still underway is naming the district’s treasurer as the finance officer with the Kentucky Department of Education.
“The recommendation was that she gets her certification, and we name one person as the treasurer,” he said. “It just so happens that our superintendent had the certification so he was named the treasurer but de facto was that our treasurer was the treasurer.”
Until the treasurer finishes certification, Superintendent James Kemp will hold that position. Ramsey said that process should be finished by June.
