Friday marks the required opening day for in-person absentee voting at Kentucky’s county clerk offices.

But, the president of the statewide county clerks association doesn’t expect an increase in foot traffic in her Danville office.

By law, all counties in the state must allow in-person absentee voting at least 12 working days before the election.

Kentucky County Clerks Association President Trille Bottom says her in-house machine began operating Monday,

“I think most county clerks start at least a week earlier than necessary.  Just to allow extra time for voters to come in.”

Kentucky started online voter registration in March but, Bottom says, there’ve been about twice as many people updating their registrations in her county compared to new registrants. She says there are about 11,000 registered Democrats in Boyle County and some 9,000 Republicans.

Bottom notes people who have changed their party affiliation online since March are not eligible to vote in the May Primary.  New voters are able to cast their ballots on the 17th. ?
