VIDEO: Paducah Veterans Day Celebration Full of Cheers Despite Rain

The cheers of school children erupted as veterans marched up Broadway during the annual Veterans Day parade in Paducah today. The rain did not dampen the onlookers’ spirits.

Hardy Gentry was awarded the Distinguished Veteran Award this year for his service not only in the military but also in the community. He has been the American Legion post commander numerous times.

He dedicated the parade to the loved ones who stay behind while service members are deployed.

The annual Veterans Day essay contest winner was North Marshall County Middle School student Cole Wyatt. He gave tribute to veterans for their service to maintain the freedoms in the United States.

“All the men and women have sacrificed many and long hours and days away from their home to defend and protect us,” Wyatt said in his essay. “All of our veterans have made tremendous sacrifice for our freedom.”

A wreath has been laid at the McCracken County Courthouse to honor the fallen while paying tribute to those who are currently serving in the military.

The Veterans Day Concert is tonight at the Robert Cherry Civic Center at 7. The concert is open to the public at no charge.
