The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to a conviction in the shooting of a bald eagle in Grand Rivers. Officials say the federally protected eagle was shot sometime between December 25, 2015 and January 2, 2016.

The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act prohibit the killing or harming of bald eagles. Such acts carry a penalty of up to $100,000 in fines and one year in prison.

To provide information regarding the killing, contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent at (270) 252-7336, or Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Conservation Officer Evan Ethington at (270) 890-3300.

Bald Eagles live 15 to 25 years and are found around rivers and lakes. The western Kentucky lakes region supports Kentucky’s most concentrated population of eagles.
