UPDATE: According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a cold front is expected to move from southeast Missouri and hit our region Wednesday evening. It'll bring showers and thunderstorms, along with potential damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
Most of the inclement weather will take place between 7 p.m. and midnight, where the NWS predicts damaging gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
The region should be mostly dry after that time.
ORIGINAL STORY: Forecasters say Veterans Day could bring severe thunderstorms with the possibility of tornadoes.
According to National Weather Service Paducah Lead Meteorologist David Humphries, the storm system moving in from the west should hit our listening area sometime before tomorrow afternoon.
“It’s a storm from the west and it’s going to be a windy day, so that’s gonna impact any veterans day activates, we’re talking winds that while easily average in the 10 to 20 range, and we could have some gusts to 30 or even higher," said Humphrey. "And afternoon and evening hours are best for a chance of storms.”
He says this means showers and wind gusts as high as 30 miles-per-hour with more severe weather later in the day.
“Particularly, probably in the Murray area shortly after nightfall," said Humphrey. "Chance of showers and storms, a slight risk of severe storms, damaging wind would be the primary threat. And that would include an isolated tornado threat.”
Humphries says once the front moves through, the rest of the week should be cool and dry with highs in the fifties and lows in the thirties into the weekend.
