UPDATE: Murray Shooting Charges Upgraded to Murder

A Mayfield man suspected of shooting a teenager in Murray earlier this week is now being charged with murder.  

Calloway County Attorney Bryan Ernstberger says the manslaughter charges against 21-year-old Te’Arron Sherill have been upgraded to murder after conferring with the Commonwealth Attorney, who will be handling the felony case.  

Murray Police arrested Sherill late Wednesday night after responding to reports of a shooting on Stadium View Drive where they discovered 18-year-old Jamel Al-Shubili, also of Mayfield, dead.

County Coroner Rick Harris says the victim died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.  

Sherill’s bond is also upped from $50,000 to $500,000.  

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for next Friday, September 18.

Police say a man has been charged in the fatal shooting on Stadium View Drive in Murray last night.

The victim has also been identified. 

MPD's Sgt. Dave Howe says Te'Arron Sherill has been arrested and charged with 2nd degree Manslaughter and Tampering of Physical Evidence.

Sherill, 21, was listed on the Calloway County Jail roster at 4:52am this morning. The jail had him listed with a Mayfield address.

County Coroner Rick Harris says the victim has been identified as 18-year-old Jamel Al-Shubili.  Harris said the victim died of a single gunshot would to the chest and did not know if Al-Shubili was a university student. 

The investigation is ongoing.

The Murray Police Department is investigating a possible shooting that occurred last night. 

At approx 8:30pm, officers responded to Stadium View Drive in Murray involving an 18-year-old male victim.

Police have not yet revealed the identity of the victim.
