Original Updated Story:

Military Police at Fort Campbell apprehended a 101st Airborne Division soldier Thursday after reports of shots fired near the Campbell Army Airfield.

According to a news release, the soldier allegedly entered Hanger 8 at 11:30 a.m. and fired two shots then fled in his own vehicle. Installation law enforcement then pursued. In the pursuit the soldier hit another vehicle but continued to his on-post residence where he was subdued. Officers discovered additional weapons and ammunition in his vehicle.

The soldier is in the custody of the Army Criminal Investigative Division on post. An investigation is ongoing.

No injuries were reported. Gates are open after a temporary closure. The incident lasted 30 minutes.

Brig. General Scott E. Brower, 101st Airborne Division acting senior commander said in the release, "We consistently train for a myriad of situations and contingencies. This type training also extends to our civilian workforce so that they will also be ready to respond at any given time."

"Today, that was tangibly demonstrated by our law enforcement officials, and workers within the incident scene," Brower said. "The potential for tragedy was there, but due to the rapid response and readiness of everyone involved, a tragedy was successfully averted."
