UofL Interim President Outlines Steps to Oversee Athletics

Facebook, University of Louisville

The University of Louisville's interim president says steps are underway to bolster oversight of the athletics department, which came under attack from a high-profile trustee. Interim President Greg Postel said Wednesday his actions weren't spurred by criticism from pizza magnate John Schnatter, who is a UofL trustee.

Schnatter recently called the athletic department leadership "invisible.”

Postel says when he took the job early this year, trustees asked him to do a thorough review of UofL. Postel offered an endorsement of athletic director Tom Jurich. Postel says the oversight steps include a proposal related to financial control and oversight of the athletics department. He also says vacancies on the UofL Athletic Association Board will be filled, and Jurich will start attending trustees meetings.

When asked about Postel's actions, Schnatter said, "I'm happy."
