Union City could see up to 560 new jobs from business developments expected to open this fall and next year.
Obion County Joint Economic Development Council CEO Lindsay Frilling announced during a multi-state strategy economic panel Thursday that Williams Sausage plans to open its new corporate headquarters facility this September.
She said the long-time Obion County sausage producer will bring in 220 full-time jobs.
“A lot of it will be on the line. You know, production, like frying up the sausage and putting it on the biscuits and packaging and things like that," Frilling said. "There will be some maintenance jobs there because they will have a truck shop there, as well as a distribution center.”
Frilling said Tyson Foods is also expanding operations in Obion County. Tyson expects to hire 300 new positions after adding 26,000 square feet to their current facility.
The expansion isn’t expected to break ground until late next year.
Frillings also said the construction of two new hotels in Union City are underway-- A Holiday Inn and Mainstay-Sleep Inn that will bring up to 40 jobs to the region.
The panel discussion was part of the West Kentucky Alliance For A Vibrant Economy-- or WAVE’s-- biennial conference.
