Underwriter Spotlight: Red Bug Yarn & Gifts

We're not spinning a yarn when we say that when it comes to knitting, Red Bug Yarn & Gifts has you covered. After 5 years in business, they moved to a larger location last month. Partner Trudy McFarlane talks with us about the move.

"People were coming in from all over: Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee and parts further. They'd be delighted to come through and find this great yarn shop in Murray. Eventually, we just needed more room and when the house on the corner of 6th and Maple went up for sale, it didn't take long to figure out that's where we needed to be."

With large windows for natural light, and more room for gift supplies, the house lends itself to creativity and lots of fun for the Red Bug ladies when it comes to layout. The kitchen is perfect to display kitchenware, candles and gourmet foods. They converted the bathroom into a display area for soaps, lotions and bath and body products, with a tub full of pillows.

Still, their main focus will always be their large yarn selection, with every weight and fiber represented. Each of the four partners - Jill, Trudy, Cindy & Susan - love what they do and are experienced knitters and crafters. Red Bug teaches classes on knitting and crochet and will launch a new weaving workshop in the coming months.

Trudy says when it comes to underwriting that she's always chosen WKMS as the #1 way of getting the word out because the listenership is so great, along with the range of service. And Red Bug's yarn selection strikes a chord with many listeners. "WKMS bends over backwards to support the community and that's what we're about too." Red Bug is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 5 and Saturday from 10 to 2.

Find them at 102 South 6th Street in Murray or on Facebook.

Asia Burnett is WKMS Station Manager.
