Underwriter Spotlight: Heirloom Table Home in Hopkinsville

It’s the start of the holiday season. The countdowns to Thanksgiving and Christmas have officially begun, and families will soon be gathered round dining tables to share stories and laughter. It’s that deep significance of the family table that prompted the founders of Heirloom Table Home in Hopkinsville to start designing and building beautiful dining tables of their own.

Heirloom founder Shannon Creighton has spent years learning the skills necessary to produce quality heirloom style furniture. All of the pieces designed by Heirloom are hand-crafted, using traditional joinery. This means table rails are joined to table legs using hand-cut mortises and tenons; table tops are hand scraped and planed; and the finish is a hand-rubbed natural oil that seals and protects while enhancing the natural beauty of the wood. This attention to detail and the enthusiastic passion for furniture-making help inspire these artisans to produce beautiful work. While Shannon's original designs are Heirloom’s primary focus, he also welcomes commissions and inquiries about other designs.

Shannon feels deeply about what he does. “Woodworking has been a love of mine since I was small. My dad showed me how to use a lathe for wood-turning when I was about 8 years old and I have been hooked since. I fell in love with hand tools and their use when I lived in the Northeast, going to school studying design. We have a history of woodworkers in my family and I am proud to be carrying on the tradition.”

As it turns out woodworking is not the only tradition that Shannon and Heirloom Table Home are trying to carry on. There is also a long history of listening to NPR. “We are an NPR family”, says Shannon with genuine pride. “Growing up I remember riding in the car with dad listening to public radio and we both are as tuned in today as we were then.” The family at Heirloom Table Home knows the value of WKMS’s listenership. Listeners who appreciate the arts understand that shopping locally and supporting small business make our communities strong. “We love the support we have received so far and are looking forward to getting our name in front of such great listeners.”
