TVA Seeks Public Input on Shawnee Coal Plant Projects

TVA

The Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking public input for an environmental impact statement on projects at the coal-fired Shawnee Fossil Plant.

The authority is taking public comments until Dec. 1 and will hold a public open house Nov. 15 at the Robert Cherry Civic Center in Paducah on three initiatives.

The authority is evaluating closure alternatives for an existing coal ash pond, analyzing impact of closing an existing special waste landfill, and considering building and running a new on-site landfill.

The plant is located about 12 miles northeast of Paducah in McCracken County, Kentucky.

The authority says the project supports its goal to convert from wet to dry storage of ash across its system.
