TVA Requests Public Comment on Revised Plans at Shawnee Fossil Plant

tva.gov

The Tennessee Valley Authority is considering the environmental impacts of closing out some of its storage sites for coal ash and other coal combustion residuals and constructing a new water processing area at the Shawnee Fossil Plant near Paducah.

The updated projects are related to plans to move from wet to dry storage of coal ash and other residuals at all TVA coal-fired plants. The projects would also raise the stability of the site by minimizing the movement of coal combustion residuals.

TVA is inviting the public to comment on those plans as detailed in a draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement at tva.gov/nepa.

The SEIS does not impact the decision to build a new dry storage landfill on a portion of TVA property near the eastern boundary of the site. This landfill will provide additional long-term disposal of dry CCR produced at Shawnee.
