TVA to Consider Public Comment on Gallatin Coal Ash Facility

Tennessee Valley Authority, Facebook

The Tennessee Valley Authority is considering building a facility to remove and recirculate water used in the coal ash management process at a Gallatin facility.

TVA's Gallatin Fossil Plant has four coal-fired generating units located on the north bank of the Cumberland River. The dewatering facility would convert the storage of bottom ash and coal combustion residuals from wet to dry and include a system to recycle water for continued use. The dry ash would be stored onsite.

This project would foster TVA’s compliance with state and federal regulations. TVA is inviting the public to comment on a draft Environmental Assessment which considers the potential environmental impacts of alternatives.

TVA’s preferred alternative is to construct the dewatering facility, which is the only alternative that fully complies with Environmental Protection Agency limitations on wastewater.
