Town & Gown Community Band Plays MSU Quad Lawn Tuesday

Town and Gown Community Band Concert director Maestro Todd Hill joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good with a preview of the program on the Murray State University quad lawn Tuesday (June 9) at 7 (inside Lovett if raining). Dr. Hill says the band of over 100 performers ranges across ages and local communities. The show is emceed by Pete Lancaster and features a special appearance by MSU President Bob Davies.

The MSU Town & Gown Community Band features youth aged 15 (if f they've made an all-district honors band), college students, pro level players and adults looking to get back into performance.

The show opens with "The Thunderer" a march by the Sousa, then Gustav Holst's Suite in F for Military Band, "The Typewriter" with MSU President Bob Davies, Symphonic Overture by Charles Carter, a tribute to Chorus Line (which opened on Broadway 40 years ag0) and The Billboard March by John N. Klohr.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
