Kentucky Transportation officials say a portion of construction on the New US68/KY80 Lake Barkley Bridge in Trigg County has minor damage after a towboat struck one of the piers this morning.

According to the Coast Guard Louisville Operation Center, the Harbor Tug Tennessee Hunter was pushing 15 empty barges when wind blew the tow into the construction forms on Pier 8. Traffic on the existing bridge was reduced to one lane this morning while crews inspected the site.

Inspectors report no damage to the existing bridge. Minor damage to the new bridge will take approximately a week or more to replace.

The captain reported minimal damage to the lead barge.
