TN Voters to Get Constitutional Amendment on Hunting

By AP

Nashville, TN – A constitutional amendment to guarantee the right to hunt and fish in Tennessee will go before voters in November's general election. The House voted 90-1 in favor of the proposal sponsored by Republican Representative Joe McCord. The vote completes a prolonged process for constitutional amendments that requires measures to pass both chambers by a majority during one two-year legislative session, and then by a two-thirds majority in the next. McCord says 12 other states have similar constitutional provisions. Democratic Representative Johnnie Turner cast the only vote against the measure. She says she couldn't envision a scenario where lawmakers would try to ban hunting or fishing.
