TN Handgun Database Legislation Up for Vote

By Angela Hatton

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee House is scheduled to hear legislation that would close public access to names of people who have state-issued permits to carry loaded handguns. The measure sponsored by Democratic Representative Eddie Bass could go for a full floor vote this evening. State Safety Department records show nearly 1,200 people have lost their permits since 2005. Revocations are issued for felony convictions, while permits can be suspended for pending criminal charges or for court protection orders. The companion bill is awaiting a full Senate vote.
