Tennessee Republican Senator Bob Corker is standing by his decision to not run for re-election this year.
Some of his fellow GOP Senators have been asking Corker to change his mind and seek a third term.
Corker’s chief of staff Todd Womack told the USA Today Network-Tennessee that the Senator has made up his mind—two terms in the U.S Senate are enough. Womack said while the Senator thought there was a “clear path to re-election," Corker is standing by the decision he announced in September and will leave the Senate at the end of this year.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander are two of the high-ranking Republicans who had been lobbying Corker to reconsider.
Two of the most prominent candidates seeking Corker’s Senate seat are Republican Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, and Democrat and former Governor Phil Bredesen.
