Tennessee is receiving federal grant funding to support wetland enhancement for two separate projects. Projects include easements to improve water quality, expand habitat for federally protected species, reduce soil erosion, and additional outdoor recreation opportunities.

The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) plans to invest more than $15 million to West Tennessee watersheds and Wetlands. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says the projects include collaboration with partners on the local and regional level.

West Tennessee River Basin Authority is a lead partner for state restoration projects. Basin Authority director David Salyers says $766,819 will go towards projects in the Forked Deer Watershed. He says projects will take another year before start.

The USDA awarded $44.6 million dollars last week to support 10 wetland enhancement projects throughout 12 different states.
