Tanner and Whitfield Health Care Votes

By Todd Hatton

Washington D.C. – Kentucky's Republican 1st District U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield and Tennessee's 8th District Democratic U.S. Congressman John Tanner cast their votes against the health care reform bill that passed last night.

Whitfield cited what he calls the negative impact the measure will have on Kentuckians' health care, small businesses, and the budget, while Tanner says he's unconvinced the bill adequately addresses long-term trends of rising health care costs.

However, Tanner does commend the administration and House leaders for bringing the bill more toward the center. For his part, Whitfield criticized the House Rules Committee's rejection of 80 amendments he says would have expanded health care access while holding costs down.
