Symbiotic Applies for Hydroelectric Generators on Ohio River

By AP

Henderson, KY – A Utah company has submitted license applications to develop more than $400 million in hydroelectric generation units on dams on the lower Ohio River. Symbiotics LLC has an eye on Union County, Kentucky for one of its facilities, at an estimated cost of more than $200 million. Another facility is proposed for southern Indiana, across the river. A spokesperson for Henderson, Kentucky-based power generator Big Rivers Electric Corp., told The Henderson Gleaner that hydroelectric power might be attractive to area electric companies should the government require utilities to obtain power from renewable sources.
