Stumbo Appoints House Task Force to Combat Child Abuse

LRC Public Information

Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo has appointed a group of legislators to combat child abuse. The House Task Force on Child Abuse and Exploitation Prevention will examine and propose legislation designed to protect children.

A report from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services found at least nine Kentucky children died from abuse or neglect in the past year. Parents are found to be the most frequent abusers.

The bi-partisan group consists of state representatives who, according to a news release from Stumbo’s office, have championed related legislation in the past.

The state reps are Linda Belcher, Regina Bunch, Tom Burch, Dennis Keene, Kim King, Darryl Owens, Rita Smart and Addia Wuchner.

“Safeguarding our children’s future is not a Democratic or Republican issue.  We have the potential now to come up with comprehensive legislation that will better protect children,” Stumbo said.

The first meeting is October 20.
