Kentucky’s Energy and Environment Cabinet is awarding grants to expand recycling and to reduce the amount of solid waste going into landfills.
According to a release from Governor Matt Bevin's office on Monday, grants from the Division of Waste Management also aim to improve management of household hazardous waste.
Recycling grants totaling more than $3 million went to 46 counties including Christian, Hopkins and Marshall. Household hazardous waste grants totaling more than $700,000 went to 27 counties including Trigg, Graves and McCracken.
Grant dollars come from the Kentucky Pride Fund, which is generated by $1.75 fee for each ton of municipal solid waste disposed of in Kentucky landfills.
