State Budget Compromises

By Rebecca Feldhaus/KPR

Frankfort, KY – There are no easy choices this year, according to Kentucky's Governor, when legislators from the house and senate negotiate a compromise budget. Conferees from both the house and senate will likely meet over the next several days as they attempt to iron out differences. Governor Steve Beshear believes he'll play a part in negotiations.

"We are certainly in contact with both house and senate leadership and will continue to have that contact through these negotiations they seek out input we're giving them out input and hopefully it will be helpful in terms of coming to some sort of resolution."

The governor predicts an expansion of gambling won't play a part in budget negotiations. His proposed spending plan was based on the addition of slot machines at Kentucky's horse tracks. However, the House and Senate rejected the premise.
