Spot NASA's International Space Station at Sunset

National Weather Service Paducah, via Twitter

Look up tonight and you might see the International Space Station. The National Weather Service in Paducah shared a Tweet with approximate times and degrees, per NASA's Spot the Station data.

Mostly clear skies are in the forecast and if that remains the case, then the station should be visible at roughly the same time throughout the WKMS listening region.

The four-minute visibility window begins at approximately 6:41 p.m. NASA says sunset is an optimal time for sightings as the sun reflects off the space station. The station's max elevation is at a 52 degrees above the horizon (directly overhead is 90 degrees).  It will appear 10 degrees above the horizon in the northwest and will disappear 30 degrees in the east.

For more times and locations and later dates, see NASA's website

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
