A local elementary school has been selected as one of the best schools in the state based on a biennial teacher survey and other criteria.
Southwest Calloway Elementary School is among the Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning Survey Winner’s Circle Honorable Mention winners along with 59 other schools across the state. Calloway Schools Spokesperson John McMillen said along with high test scores, principal Josh McKeel’s leadership is what makes the school stand out.
“Josh is a great leader and he has great teachers surrounding him. He would tell you it’s the teachers. His teachers would tell you that his leadership has contributed to that. But the two together is what’s making them stand out for this award,” McMillen said.
Southwest Elementary’s honorable mention puts it on a list of schools that can provide best practice models for Kentucky’s educational leaders. It also puts it under consideration for the Winners’ Circle Award, which will be given to ten schools later this month.
