[Slideshow] Paducah School of Art and Design Opens New Facility

Paducah School of Art and Design officials met Thursday night for the grand opening of the institution’s 2D and Graphic Design Building.

The 30,000 square-foot LowerTown facility will house programs including photography, visual communications and multimedia. PSAD launched in 2008 as a division of the West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

WKCTC President Barbara Veazey says the expansion is key to drawing new talent to western Kentucky. “I think young people want some kind of arts community that they can be a part of, that they can be involved in or know that our community has a cultural aspect of it, we embrace that. And I think that’s where people want to live," Veazey says.

Veazey, who is retiring in June, says the facility’s overall cost comes out to about $10 million. That total includes computer labs, recording studios and a gallery named for Paducah artist and interior designer Bill Ford.

A proud native of Murray, Kentucky, Allison grew up roaming the forests of western Kentucky and visiting national parks across the country. She graduated in 2014 from Murray State University where she studied Environmental Sustainability, Television Production, and Spanish. She loves meeting new people, questioning everything, and dancing through the sun and the rain. She hopes to make a positive impact in this world several endeavors at a time.
