Severe Weather On the Way

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – Winter weather is moving into our area this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southeastern Missouri until midnight tonight. A band of snow is moving east through our region, with an expected accumulation of about one or two inches. Snow has been reported throughout the Jackson Purchase and in southern Illinois. McCracken County Emergency Management Meteorologist Beau Dodson says winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour will accompany the front and can cause wind chill values to drop into the single digits. Temperatures will continue to fall throughout the day and lead into a cold weekend with temperatures falling into the teens and twenties. Kentucky Transportation officials say crews are geared up and ready for the snow. KYTC spokesman Keith Todd says to remember that overpasses and bridges will freeze more quickly than the rest of the roadway. Todd says the high winds in the forecast will create hazardous driving conditions, particularly for high profile vehicles such as tractor trailer trucks.
