School Gets Tornado Protection Funding

By Angela Hatton

Paris, TN – FEMA has granted the Paris, Tennessee's Special School District funding for a tornado-safe space at their elementary school. FEMA will cover 75-percent of the half-million-dollar grant. Superintendent Mike Brown says the project is part of a four-classroom expansion at the elementary school. Brown expects construction to begin this summer and be completed before next March. The school district also plans to seek funding for a safe space at their Middle School. Brown says the school is also considering partnering with the city to utilize the torndado-safe spaces after school hours in case of an emergency.
