Rezoning Request Feeds Expansion Rumors

By Carrie Pond

Clarksville, TN – A rezoning request before Clarksville's Regional Planning Commission has led some to speculate a major company could be coming to the city's industrial megasite. The city's planning commission has proposed to rezone the land around the over 1,200- acre Commerce Park as a General Industrial District. City development officials say the zone change would keep residential development from encroaching on the megasite property, but they haven't confirmed if talks are in the works with any major corporations. But spokesman for Michigan-based Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation Jarrod Erpelding tells the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle that the company wants to expand its production of a material used in the production of solar panels and electronics. He says the company has yet to reach a definitive decision on when or if plans for a new plant would move forward. The company is considering sites in Tennessee and Michigan. Commerce Park has the needed size and infrastructure to accommodate a large project.
