Resolution Regarding Pornography Introduced in Senate

A Kentucky senator has introduced a resolution recognizing pornography as a “public health crisis.” The resolution wording, brought by Greensburg Senator David Givens, also acknowledges the need for education on the harmful effects of pornography.

Givens said the measure is aimed at “raising awareness” of the issue.

“In thinking about the resolution and being asked by some constituents to file the resolution, it dawned on me that of all the difficult conversations my family and I have had in the last few years, I’ve never talked with my sons about pornography. That’s something I need to be doing as a parent.”

Givens the resolution is a way of hopefully spurring conversation around awareness of issues related to pornography.

“What studies indicate follows frequent access to pornography, objectification of women, what norms do we think are appropriate in how we treat one another? It’s going to be influenced by that objectification. Sex trafficking. Human trafficking,” said Givens.

While saying he’s been a long standing advocate of technology, Givens said that same computer technology can have negative consequence, especially considering how it allows easy access to pornography.
