Republicans Flip the House: What Local Party Leaders See For The Future in Kentucky

The House of Representatives in Kentucky saw a shift of power on election night, electing 15 Republican representatives and flipping the state House majority from Democratic control.

Kentucky gave up the title as the last House in the south to have a Democratic majority. What will the change bring to Kentucky's citizens?

Calloway County Democratic Party chairman David Ramey said that looking forward, he is afraid the change will bring more cuts to state appropriation for higher education.

“I’m very concerned about a lot of our teachers and our professional staff at Murray State, and how that is going to affect our economy here locally”

Murray State University is one of the largest employers in western Kentucky. Calloway County Republican Party chairman Greg DeLancey said the pressure is on for Republicans on both the state and federal level to deliver on promises that were made during the campaigning season.

"You know the wand is in the hands of the Republicans and so expectations are high for things to change.”

DeLancey said that he hopes Republicans will move forward in positive ways, saying that with great power comes great responsibility.
