In an unexpected election night victory, Kentucky Representative Mike Harmon has been elected State Auditor. Harmon, a Republican, defeated Democrat Adam Edelen, who would have assumed a second term had he won Tuesday night.

In his victory speech, Harmon compared his campaign to David’s win over Goliath and thanked his supporters, "No one person can campaign throughout the state without having great people praying for you, working for you and help you.”

Harmon’s win was one of three down-ballot races where Republicans claimed victory: Ryan Quarles will be the state’s next agriculture commissioner and Allison Ball the next treasurer. Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes was reelected for a second term as Secretary of State, and Democrat Andy Beshear was elected attorney general.
