Racers Set Sights on Old Dominion, Madison Square Garden

MSU Racer Athletics

With a commanding win over Tulsa Monday, the Murray State men’s basketball team now has their sights on number one seed Old Dominion in the NIT quarterfinals Wednesday night.

The third-seeded Racers (29-5, 16-0 OVC) are in Virginia to play for their 30th win this season, as well as a spot in the semis at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

They’ve won 12 road games in a row, while Old Dominion’s taken home 23 straight on their court.

The teams met last year in a 10-point ODU victory. In a press conference this week, Racers coach Steve Prohm says his squad’s prepared this time around.

“We were up there last year with a really really young basketball team but we’re a different team now and the great thing about these games now –we’re on ESPN- I think people are finally starting to understand," Prohm said. "Whether we win or lose Wednesday night, not only is our league really really good, but we’re really good, and I’m proud of our guys for that.”

ESPN2 will broadcast the contest starting at 6 p.m. Murray State's CFSB Center will host a watch party with free food and drinks in the Murray Room, starting at 5.

With a victory, MSU will face No. 2 Stanford March 31.
