Purchase Youth Village Gets Approval For 24 Additional Beds

Purchase Youth Village in Benton has received approval to double its capacity for children and adolescents requiring treatment for mental illness. The new residential facility announced last week it would begin accepting patients July 5th to fill its 28 rooms.

Dr. Maqbool Ahmed said the facility will begin construction on another 24 rooms as soon as possible.  He said the new mental health facility is a more affordable option for displaced patients because it accepts most insurance carriers. Ahmed said unlike hospitals, physicians at the facility will be able to incorporate long-term psychotherapy alongside any prescription treatment plans.

“They have these longer lasting illnesses which need more slower remedy, with psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, group therapy- where children have to be together.” Ahmed said.

Ahmed said the facility “puts service over business.” He said west Kentucky is a choice location for the new facility because the area is isolated from other major cities. He said before Purchase Youth Village, families in the area would have to travel long distances or even out of state to get the care they needed.
