Fort Donelson National Battlefield has opened a 30-day public review period for a draft environmental assessment that would update the park’s fire management plan.
The revision of the 2003 Fire Management Plan evaluates two alternatives to add tools and strategies not previously incorporated.
Alternative A would continue using methods such as maintaining open park-like conditions, suppressing all wildfires and reducing hazardous fuels along park perimeters bordering private residences.
Alternative B would add prescribed burning, limited mastication, manual thinning and herbicide treatments to actions included under Alternative A.
The draft environmental assessment analyzes the effects of the fire management activities on the human environment and provides an opportunity for public input. The review period ends January 19th.
