Murray, KY – Newly released documents show investigators "found no grounds" to open an investigation into an inmate's claim that she had been sexually abused a decade ago by Republican gubernatorial candidate David Williams. The attorney general's office released the documents Tuesday, two weeks before the Nov. 8 general election. Williams is the top challenger to Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear in his bid for re-election. Franklin County Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate, responding to newspaper requests, ruled last month that records involving the woman's complaint would be made public. Williams had represented the woman in a criminal case but denied that he had sexual contact with her. The records show that the woman was in the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women at Pewee Valley when she made the claim. The Kentucky Bureau of Investigation dropped the case after a preliminary investigation found no basis for charges. The Williams campaign had no immediate comment Tuesday.
